The Grizzlies have been a punchline the past few years in Memphis. They’ve been notorious for bad draft picks, signing elder free agents, and underachieving. As the “Grit N Grind” era came to an end as the final piece Mike Conley was shipped out to Utah this offseason. The Grizzlies took
Murray State PG JA Morant and last year’s first round choice Jaren Jackson Jr. is only getting better. On a night where most people don’t likely care who wins the NBA Summer League
Championship, this speaks volumes for what is being built in the Bluff City. Despite allowing Minnesota to go on a 9-2 run to end the game, the Grizzlies are your 2019 NBA Summer League champs defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 95-92. Think of what this team just endured. These ten guys were literally thrown together within the past 30 days. By dealing Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz, they acquired in that deal last year’s late 1st round pick Grayson Allen who came with some baggage. However, he played well in this game. Brandon Clarke (21st overall pick) ends up winning both Summer League MVP and NBA Summer League Championship MVP, the first player to do so. Memphis has a bright future ahead of them with the young talent
that’s been collected. JA Morant did not play a single game in Summer League, but it will be worth tuning in to see what the Grizzlies will have to offer the next 3-5 seasons.
